L’Indice dei Libri del Mese is presenting in its October issue a new collection of writings by Primo Levi that have had a very limited circulation and received no notice at all.

These rare fragments of his writings both anticipate and accompany some of his most famous books, such as The Periodic Table and If Not Now, When? They bring forth Levi’s talent in narrating stories about work, his capacity to invent new worlds in his technological and biological fantasy stories, and his ties with his Jewish roots.

This special issue is edited by the Turin-based Centro Internazionale di Studi Primo Levi and introduced by comments by Domenico Scarpa (“Unprecedented, from Generation to Generation”) and Fabio Levi (“His Public”). The issue is meant to accompany and promote the publication of the Complete Works of Primo Levi by Liveright in the United States. In fact, this October Liveright is presenting this new and complete translation of Levi’s oeuvre, including his miscellaneous writings, to an international public – an enterprise never before accomplished for any figure in Italian literature, ancient or modern.
