On March 15, the Ministry of National Education has published the first draft of the high schools syllabus.

During the last year of studies, humanities will focus on the Twentieth Century. Literary authors such as Manzoni and Leopardi will be analyzed during the fourth year, while the last year will be dedicated to the study of contemporary writers: Verga, Pascoli, Carducci, D’Annunzio, Svevo, Pirandello, Montale, Ungaretti, Saba and others, selected from the post-hermetic poetry, Calvino, Primo Levi, Fenoglio, Gadda and a choice among other authors, from Neorealism to today, with the possibility to investigate on the main dialectal poets of the last two centuries, such as Porta and Belli.

Max Bruschi, who directed the ministerial think tank that worked on the high schools reforms, underlines the attempt to shape a canon of the Short Century, making sure the syllabus will not cut down on certain authors such as Ungaretti and Montale and forget the whole contemporary literary panorama.
