Our language lacks words - Primo Levi read in ten languages
This is a presentation for schools of the DVD made by the Fondazione Villa Emma - Ragazzi ebrei salvati di Nonantola in collaboration with the International Primo Levi Studies Center. The presentation is being made under the auspices of the Piedmont Region and the Piedmont-Region School Bureau. On January 27, 2011 at the Teatro Storchi in Modena, If This is a Man was read in ten languages – Italian, French, English, German, Polish, Slovene, Hungarian, Russian, Arabic and Hebrew – by readers who were native speakers, including David Grossman and Edith Bruck. A DVD was made of the reading and it is now addressing itself to younger listeners for its educational value. Virtually speaking, various languages and cultures engage in dialogue as they gather together around a book, to be considered a way of learning about the past and getting around in the present, a way that cannot be avoided.
