The website dedicated to Primo Levi’s language, developed as part of the PRIN 2022 project Thesaurus Primo Levi. Genesi e disseminazione di un corpus novecentesco, will be presented at the Accademia della Crusca by Sergio Bozzoli, Mariarosa Bricchi, and Cristiana De Santis.
Designed for scholars, teachers, translators, and readers of Levi, the site was created through the collaboration of the Universities of Pavia, Padua, Parma, and Turin, with scientific guidance by Centro Internazionale di Studi Primo Levi.
Primo Levi is a weaver who juxtaposes, intertwines, and establishes connections; his prose derives its vitality and momentum from such juxtapositions. Many pivotal words recur across his works, undergoing different combinations, taking on new resonances, or acquiring fresh meanings.
The Thesaurus was created to highlight the richness of these combinations and recurring elements; it is organized as a lexicon that catalogs entries and forms, beginning with his debut work "Se questo è un uomo"
For each headword, the text lists occurrences across Levi’s various works and traces their diachronic evolution.
The PRIN Thesaurus Primo Levi project is coordinated by Mariarosa Bricchi of the University of Pavia and brings together scholars from the universities of Pavia (Claudio Vela), Parma (Giulia Raboni, Margherita Centenari), Padua (Sergio Bozzola), and Turin (Paolo Soddu, Cristina Cavallaro, Daniele Pipitone). Working alongside them were Domenico Scarpa, Annachiara Monaco, Angela Siciliano, and Carmela Marranchino.
The project also benefits from collaboration with the Centro Internazionale di studi Primo Levi.
