Events for young people aged 18 to 29, the Winter school program features a schedule of 27 workshops with contributions from the worlds of academia and research, journalism, science communication, art, and activism.
For this event, the Centro Internazionale di Studi Primo Levi, is offering two workshops on Tuesday, November 10:
- "Tra guerra e dopoguerra. La tregua di Primo Levi come lettura di un contesto storico" with Donatella Sasso
- "Dentro la sala buia. Tortura, sguardo, voce" with Domenico Scarpa

This edition focuses on the evolution of global political and economic relations from the post-World War II era to the present day, the crisis of democracies and international law, the proliferation of conflicts, growing socio-economic and environmental instability, and the concepts and categories that can help interpret the present.
Starting with a historical and comparative analysis of the 1946–48 period, the Winter School aims to offer insights that foster an understanding of both the present and the future.
Centro internazionale di studi Primo Levi's workshops on Tuesday 10th:
- h. 11-13 - "Tra guerra e dopoguerra. La tregua di Primo Levi come lettura di un contesto storico": A journey through literature and history that retraces the key stages of the Second World War, leading to the redrawing of European borders within the context of the emerging Cold War. The characters vividly portrayed by Primo Levi in his 1963 book help us understand the complexities of a unique period in European history—one that was fraught with geopolitical consequences that remain highly relevant today.
- h. 14-16 - "Dentro la sala buia. Tortura, sguardo, voce": In 1986, while apartheid was still in force in his country, the South African writer J.M. Coetzee published an essay titled Into the Dark Chamber. That chamber is a place of torture. In his mind’s eye, the writer stands before its closed door, attempting to imagine and describe what takes place inside. We will discuss Coetzee, Primo Levi, Jean Améry, Leonardo Sciascia, Georges Perec, and Robert Antelme.
If you are a university student, check the website to see if you can obtain 3 CFU credits by attending the entire Winter School (individual degree programs may require additional criteria).
